The Tungnath-Chandrashila Trek is one of the most rewarding short Himalayan experiences in Uttarakhand. Starting from the serene meadows of Chopta (2,600M), this trek takes you through alpine forests and open ridgelines to reach Tungnath (3,680M) – the highest Shiva temple in the world and a key shrine in the revered Panch Kedar circuit.

A further climb leads to Chandrashila Summit (4,000M), offering sweeping 360° views of iconic Himalayan peaks including Chaukhamba, Nanda Devi, Trishul, and Kedarnath Dome. The trek blends moderate ascents with immense scenic rewards, making it ideal for beginners and seasoned trekkers alike.Adding to the experience is a visit to Deoriatal, a pristine alpine lake known for reflecting the mighty Chaukhamba massif on clear mornings.

Compact yet immersive, this trek offers altitude, mythology, and panoramic Himalayan beauty — all within a well-paced three-day adventure.

 

Itinerary

Day 01 – Dehradun to Chopta
Distance: approx 253 km
Drive Time: 9-10 hours
Altitude: 2,400M

Pick-up from Prince Chowk, Dehradun at 7:00 AM and begin your scenic mountain drive toward Chopta. The route passes through the sacred river confluences of Devprayag (Bhagirathi & Alaknanda meet to form Ganga), Srinagar, and Rudraprayag (Alaknanda & Mandakini Sangam) each town carrying deep spiritual and geographical significance in Garhwal.

As you climb higher, the terrain shifts from river valleys to forested mountain roads. Arrival at Chopta by evening. Stay in deluxe camps nestled within the forests of the Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary.

Dinner is followed by a trek briefing session with the trek leader covering trail details, altitude awareness, and next-day summit strategy.

Overnight stay in camps.

Day 02 – Chopta to Tungnath & Chandrashila Summit
Trek Distance: 5.5 km one way (Chopta → Tungnath → Chandrashila)
Total Trek Duration: 6-7 hours (round trip)
Altitude Gain: 4000M

After breakfast, begin the gradual ascent toward Tungnath Temple (3,680M) the highest Shiva temple in the world and one of the revered Panch Kedar shrines. The stone-paved trail winds through alpine meadows and seasonal rhododendron forests. The initial stretch is steady and moderate, typically taking 3-4 hours to reach the temple.

After spending time at Tungnath, continue a steeper 1.5 km climb to Chandrashila Summit (4,000M). The summit offers 360° Himalayan views of Chaukhamba, Nanda Devi, Trishul, Kedarnath Dome, and Bandarpunch peaks.

Enjoy packed lunch at the summit before descending back to Chopta by evening. On clear days, sunset from Chopta paints the Chaukhamba massif in golden hues.

Day 03 – Chopta to Deoriatal via Sari Village – Drive to Dehradun
Drive: Chopta to Sari (approx 1 hr)
Trek Distance: 2.5 km one way
Trek Duration: 1.5-2 hours ascent
Altitude: 2400M

Early morning departure from Chopta toward Sari Village, the base point for Deoriatal trek. Begin a short but scenic hike toward Deoriatal Lake, known for its mirror-like reflections of the Chaukhamba peak on clear days.

Spend time at the lake before descending back to Sari by afternoon. Post lunch, begin the return drive to Dehradun.

Expected arrival in Dehradun: Around 11:00 PM.

 

Inclusions

Accommodation for 2 Nights in deluxe camps at Chopta on triple sharing basis (double sharing for couples subject to availability).

Meals as per itinerary –

Payment Policy

To confirm your booking, a minimum of 30% of the total trip cost must be paid at the time of booking.

The remaining 70% of the total amount must be cleared at least 30 days prior to the departure date.

In case the booking is made within 30 days of departure, 100% payment is required at the time of booking.

Failure to adhere to the payment schedule may result in automatic cancellation of the booking without prior notice, and applicable cancellation charges will apply.

 

Cancellation Policy

The booking amount (30%) is non-refundable under all circumstances.

Cancellations made 30 days or more prior to the departure date will attract a cancellation charge of 20% of the total trip cost.

Cancellations made within 30 days of departure will attract 100% cancellation charges (no refund).

If the remaining balance payment is not cleared within the specified timeline, the booking will stand cancelled automatically and the amount paid will be forfeited without refund.

No refund will be provided for unused services, no-shows, or early exit from the trip.
